Dear Tracking team

I am writing to follow up on repository for tracking analysis notes, an action item from simulation and tracking meetings.

William Strecker-Kellogg at RCF has been trying to setup a modern private git server for sPHENIX. After weeks for hard work, it is in beta tests, but not yet ready for official use. Therefore, for tracking note repository use in the coming tracking workfest, we decided to get started with the older version RCF git server, and to migrate to the final sPHENIX git server few week later.

Please use this repository to check out the tracking analysis note:

https://git.racf.bnl.gov/sphenix/cgit/paper/TrackingAnaNote/

To download it for editing, please use these commands. The RCF account is used for authentication:

git clone https://git.racf.bnl.gov/sphenix/git/paper/TrackingAnaNote

cd TrackingAnaNote

./pdflatex.sh

Currently, this repository carries a template of the note, which can be compiled as attached. Thanks to Haiwang for contributing the cover graphics!

After editing, please publish your progress to the git respository with

git status ; # check what has been changed

git commit <file name>; # save it to local repository

git pull; # check out recent updates, resolve conflictions if necessary

git push; # publish your updates.

Hint1: to avoid conflicts with others, please consider frequently git pull then git push.

Hint2: the TrackingAnaNote/plot_macros/ folder can be used to save plotting macros, and plots in .C and .ROOT formats.

Let me know if there is any question or suggestions. And have a good trip to the tracking workfest

Cheers

Jin

Hello All,

Here are the notes from today's tracking meeting.

Best regards

Tracking meeting May 26, 2017:
------------------------------------------

The agenda page is:
https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=3193

I showed some plots comparing performance for 100 pion events with 100 pion + central Hijing events. The results look very good. There is still room for improvement in the single track efficiency (91% for 100 pion events, 80% for central Hijing embedded), but there is very little momentum and dca2d resolution degradation in the high occupancy events. The central Hijing events with 100 embedded pions take about 10 minutes, including about 5 minutes for the simulation. Congratulations to Haiwang and to Christof, this is tremendous progress! Special thanks to Haiwang for his tremendous effort leading up to this.

The evaluator output files for these performance plots are located in the following directories. Note that the embedded files contain only embedded pion tracks:

/sphenix/user/frawley/QTG_simulations/macros/macros/g4simulations/
  bugfix_100pion_eval_output/
  bugfix_hijing_embedded_100pion_eval_output/

We discussed our goals for the immediate future.

Haiwang and Christof will look into improving the tracking efficiency.
Otherwise, we should focus on generating performance plots and documenting what goes into them.
We should study fake track rates, reviewers would want to see that.
Christof requested cluster resolution plots extracted from the embedded files, for use as input to toy model estimates of performance.
One plot that will be needed is mass resolution for Upsilons embedded in central Hijing (we now see 84 MeV for single Upsilons).
We should check performance with the hits files that Chris generated. If it is good, we should use those.
Haiwang will modify the tracking to allow us to drop the maps layers to check performance for Upsilons and light quark jets.
Jin will talk with me offline about setting up documentation in a git repository.

Longer term (i.e. by the time of the tracking software workfest at BNL) we should also be thinking about proper event vertexing. Currently we are using the truth vertex smeared by 100 microns. This is expected to be pessimistic, and should improve with the implementation of event vertexing.

HI All,

Sorry about the short notice, but let's have a tracking meeting tomorrow at 9:00 am EDT to discuss where we stand and what we should do next. I just ran 1000 Hijing events with 100 pions each using the code containing Haiwang's bug fix from yesterday, and I will have a couple of slides to show. But mostly I think we should just talk about the status and path forward.

I will post the agenda page link a little later tonight.

Thanks

Tony
