Hi All,

Let's resume our tracking meetings next Tuesday (September 11) at 10:15 am ET. Now that the tools are in place for the inner tracking task force to study the inner tracker configuration, I would like to return to the broader picture in these meetings.

As a brief reminder, the tasks we have in the works (or have discussed) include:

Redesign of the storage objects
Redesign/reorganization of the code structure
    - Modularization
    - Segregation of the simulations and reconstruction code
Vertex reconstruction
Realistic simulation of the TPC as a single gas volume (not cylindrical layers)

In addition, it is time for us to really tackle space charge distortions in the TPC and how we will measure/correct for them. The ALICE method was discussed at the inner tracking task force meeting this week, and it seemed clear that it is not applicable to sPHENIX with our currently planned hardware. Since the TPC provides a large fraction of our physics program, it becomes a high priority for us to be able to realistically include space charge distortions in our simulated data, so that we can address how we will deal with them and whether we need additional hardware for that.

Also, we should discuss whether we would like to have a tracking software meeting in Tallahassee before the collaboration meeting in December.

Cheers
Tony
