A few months ago I fixed up the truth seeder to work with Acts, so I think the “works only for genfit” comment is old and should be removed. Of course, our tracking macro is constantly changing so I can’t guarantee it works right out of the box, but I think it should. Give it a try and if it doesn’t I can take a quick look and patch it up (if it doesn’t, I suspect it is just something small that Acts won’t like).

 

Regarding the suggestion for an enum in the tracking macro, I think that is a good idea in the longer term. In the short term it might not be as ideal because we are constantly swapping in and out different modules to test various performances, which an enum might make this tricky. I think once we settle on a designated “set” of seeding chains, an enum would be better.

To Tracking experts:

Our current G4_Tracking macro contains:

  bool use_truth_track_seeding = false;    // false for normal track seeding, use true to run with truth track seeding instead  ***** WORKS FOR GENFIT ONLY

Is the "***** WORKS FOR GENFIT ONLY" comment still true ?

From what I could read the PHTruthTrackSeeding is introduced in the tracking chain outside of the use_genfit loop and also replaces all the possible seeders we have (PHTpcTracking, hybrid and CA)

Can someone confirm wether this works for both Genfit and ACTS, or just Genfit ?

As a side note: I think it would make more sense for the seeder selection to use an enumeration, rather than the two existing boolean flags for which only three of the four combinations are valid.
