Dear CVers :
It was brought up recently at convener-management meeting :
What kind of data set STAR would like to take parasitically during CEC in Run 21.
Previously, STAR took 300M fixed target data at 7.2 GeV parasitically during CEC run in Run-20.
STAR discussed with CAD/CEC experts and it is totally possible to take collider data, namely 54 GeV AuAu collisions, parasitically. There is no technical difficulty but they need to know STAR's decision asap so that they can get paperwork approved in time.
In 2017, STAR took 800M 54 GeV Au+Au events during 3-weeks CEC running.
Two weeks ago at the closeout, PAC approved 2-week CEC running for Run-21 and another two weeks for Run-22. If you add them together, that is 4-week CEC running.
We can either take a high-statistics 54 GeV with a better detector (iTPC, eTOF, and EPD now in place, but not in Run-2017) or continue to take 7.2 GeV data which will also have high-statistics.
Based on Lijuan's estimation, 1B is probably a guidance for the 2021+2022 statistics (54 GeV: 4/3*800M ~ 1.07B , FXT 7.2 GeV : 28/9*317M ~ 0.986B)
From net-proton cumulants measurements, it would be good to take this chance to take more 54 GeV data to measure net-proton C6. (higher statistics, with iTPC, eTOF, EPD in place)
Please share your thoughts and send your feedback by early next week.
Thank you,
Best Regards,
Hanna and XIaofeng
