Dear Zach,

Thanks for addressing my comments and adding off-diagonal results.

Your slides are now more comprehensive and read very nice.

I sign off.

Best regards,
Toshihiro

Dear Toshihiro,

Thank you for the comments. I've updated the slides which are available here: https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/Sweger_Fluctuations_v2.pdf

Regarding your comments on the title, I was asked to present on net-particle fluctuations, but I see your point that I had focused on protons and deuterons. I had initially done this because I have not seen updates on net-kaon/net-charge in the recent collaboration meetings. But there was the net-charge/net-kaon paper published in 2019 and updated in 2022. So in order to make my slides more generally about net-particle fluctuations, I've added slides 25-30 on these results. Please let me know your thoughts.

Thank you!
Zach

Dear Zach,

I have some comments/suggestions on your nice slides for your considerations.

Best regards,
Toshihiro

Title: As you are not discussing about net-kaon or net-charge, so I think the title can be more specific like "net-baryon fluctuations" instead of "net-particle".

p4, 4th bullet: of -> =

p7: "Net-Particle Fluctuations" or "Net-Baryon Fluctuations" (related to my first suggestion).

p8:
- Please be speficic that skewness is corresponding to "S", not "S sigma=C3/C2".
- I didn't know about "excess" kurtosis, but it should be "\kappa-3", not \kappa\sigma^2. Please simply use "kurtosis", corresponding to "\kappa".

p9: Please cite Misha's paper.

p10:
- Add author name or "STAR" on the reference.
- \sqrt{s_NN} = 7.7 ...

p10-11, Title: BES-I Net-Proton Cumulants

p11:
- Remove [skewness] and [excess kurtosis]

p12:
- Add author name or "STAR" for top left reference

p18, 5th bullet: Result is consistent with UrQMD calculations.

p19, 20, reference:
- Phys. Rev. C (Use the same style with other slides)
- Add author name or "STAR"

p20: volume fluctuations -> initial volume fluctuations

p21, 22, Title: Moments -> Cumulants

p21:
- Add author name or "STAR" to the reference
- 1st bullet: moments -> cumulants

p22, 23, 24:
- Add author name or "STAR" to the reference

p34, 35:
- I would suggest remove these slides, as the message is not clear. Then you can spend more time for "Lessons from BES-II and FXT",
which I think is the important part from your recent studies.

p38:
- cannot not -> cannot

p39, 2nd bullet:
How about rephrasing as follows:
"So the precision... by the TOF, while all charged particles are measured by TPC including pileup events."

p37-p42:
Your explanation is clear enough to me, but I think it will be difficult for audience to follow, as it's a little complicated mechanism.
Thus, to help audience understand, how about adding the summary sentence below somewhere in p41,42?
"The PID difference between analyzed protons (TPC+TOF) and centrality definition (TPC) leads to few protons for pileup events classified in very central events."

p42:
Can you add more information to the sketch for clarity:
- X-axis: "Proton number (TPC+TOF)"
- Indicate that the proton number distribution is assumed to be for "0-5% centrality (TPC)".
- Indicate that the red tail is originally from other centrality class (peripheral collisions)

p43-44:
- Left plot "\sqrt{s_NN}=3.5 GeV (UrQMD)"

p47:
- This is a STAR talk, so remove Yige's name on top right.
