For this important point, let me send a plot (attached, sorry for the low quality), where a 3D angle averaged Gaussian, a 1D Gaussian and a 1D Lévy are compared. It is very important that while of course a 3D Gaussian is NOT Gaussian when converted to 1D, but it is very close to it (see a comparision for Rs=4 fm, Rs = 6 fm, Rl = 8 fm, so a very much non-spherical source). A 1D Lévy is much further, and the fact that this fits the data in a statistically acceptable manner really means that it is not the non-sphericality that causes the non-Gaussian nature in the 1D measurement. The experimental statistical uncertainties are much smaller than the difference between 1D Lévy and 3D averaged Gaussian.

Note also that hopefully the 3D measurements are underway (presented at the Collab meeting, and hopefully updates will be shown soon); and there was a similar result in PHENIX, shown in proceedings:

where the 3D analysis matched the 1D in terms of alpha; we hope to be able to finalize and publish the 3D and the 1D together in STAR next year.

Thank you very much for the very nice presentation. I here send you some minor
comments, that I find your instruction in your earlier pages are quite nice, especially
how this alpha parameter acts as non-gaussian source shape etc in p5. While I also
think it would be very good, if you could tell what would be the merit of this 1D Levy
fitting compared to the usual 3D gaussian source analysis, if you can at least say
this non-gaussian shape is not just coming from the 3D to 1D conversion/averaging,
that would have different source sizes depending on the 3 directions. Therefore you
might like to go to the 3D-Levy as your next step, though… Thanks again.
