Hello CW,

  Thanks for the explanation.

We were surprised that one cannot use q2 from different eta region to tune in on the event shape. For your analysis, it will be very useful if you show the v2-East and v2-West versus q2 in a 2D scatter plot. Then we can discuss what means by v2 versus q2 should be dynamical.

  Regards,

  Huan

 Hello Huan,

Thanks for the question, hope these responses help! Please see below.

On slide 7 what do you refer to when you discuss autocorrelation? What exactly is the autocorrelation that you are concerned with here? [On slide 7, the green data is from averaging the Delta S from the East and West subevents. This is how the R variable is defined. We say the green data contains an “autocorrelation” because by averaging the Delta S East and Delta S West the POI & EP are no longer independent. The same degrees of freedom have been used twice - since the EP is used in calculating Delta S (slide 4). The red data are what we see if the two Delta S are NOT averaged.] – CW

On slide 9, you showed a relation between v2 and q2. We saw the similar relationship in Zhiwan/Gang’s analysis. For centrality bin of 20-50%, the averaged v2 is within a small range as shown in your figure. In our attempt to do Event-Shape Selection, we try to select a small class of events fluctuated towards more spherical shape (small q2).  What we find is that the fluctuations of q2 in different eta windows or different subset of particles are not correlated at all. Because of this semi-independent fluctuations, one cannot use the so-defined q2 as a dial to select spherical events for particles of interest. Essentially, one tries to use an ineffective dial to select the event shape.

Why are these fluctuations in q2 from different eta windows so independent? There may be deep dynamical reasons that we do not know yet.

It may be useful for STAR to evaluate the different Event-Shape Selection approaches. We should make sure that different approaches should be clearly explained if seemingly different results will be presented.

[ Our v2 come from the East subevent eta range -1.0 < eta < -0.3 and West subevent eta range: 0.3 < eta < 1.0. Our q2 is taken from a middle eta region -0.3 < eta < 0.3. So, the q2 and v2 come from separate phase spaces, so the fluctuations of v2 vs. q2 should be dynamical. ] --CW

Hello Conveners,

I have updated my slides to include a copy of the

\xi vs. N*Dgamma plot which includes the separate DeltaS, single normalization data series (pink points).

Please see Slide 12.

Thanks!
