Hi, Fuqiang :

There is no three coordinates as you said, only two.

It is clearly labeled as "Forced match",  together with the same color group for the last three observables, I don' think there would be any confusion.

Thanks,
Aihong

Hi, Fuqiang :

I meant the coord. is the Ru+Ru/Zr+Zr ratio vs. the (weighted Ru+Ru)/Zr+Zr raito. They are different.
I didn't mean the variable that is being used in taking the ratio. These are indicated on the horizontal axis and are clear.

Your argument doesn't persuade me. The difference appears to be a matter of technical detail.  Note that similar style was used in Yicheng's own presentation previously, where the Y-axis title on the right side was even dramatically different, it is "N delta gamma/v2' as opposed to "Delta gamma v2".
I'm genuinely puzzled by why this was acceptable in Yicheng's prior presentation but it is now considered problematic.

Yes, people often do that, with a set of points corresponding to the left coord, and another set of points corresponding to the right coord. That's not a problem, and that's what's done with the split forced match plot. But if you put the two panels together, then you have three coord. variables. How do you properly label them? That's the main reason why I want them to be separate.

Hi, Fuqiang and all :

I don't think we agreed to split the plot into two panels during the discussion.

1) Regarding your comment that they are different quantities : One can argue that other quantities are even more different than each other, for example, kappa and delta gamma v2, they are also different quantities but we decided to plot them together. My point is, their are different observables, but their relevance is apparent.

I meant the coord. is the Ru+Ru/Zr+Zr ratio vs. the (weighted Ru+Ru)/Zr+Zr raito. They are different.
I didn't mean the variable that is being used in taking the ratio. These are indicated on the horizontal axis and are clear.

2) We are talking about the talk, not Yicheng's paper. There is no need that we keep the same format. It is ok you show Yicheng's plot as it is before the summary slide.  Having a such plot will allow non-experts, like Daniel Cebra, quickly get the point of the talk.

I think the current version of layout better conveys the message, and has less chance for confusion.

3) Such combined plot has already been approved by STAR and shown at the Chirality Workshop and was well received by the audience.

Could you send a link to the plot?
I guess I wasn't paying attention. If I was, I would have voiced similar concerns.
But I suppose the speaker has some say in how to best convey the data message.

Thanks,
Aihong

Dear All,

I asked Yicheng to split the summary plot on slide 18 because of the following considerations.
  • The Ru+Ru/Zr+Zr ratio and the (weighted Ru+Ru)/Zr+Zr ratio are two different quantities. Plotting them together in a single frame could cause confusion. Separate panels make this clear.

  • The left panel is simply taken from the money plot in the submitted paper except the added reference. “STAR preliminary” is removed. The right panel of the forced match results is labeled STAR preliminary. This distinction is clean with split panels.

  • As you see, the left panel plot is intentionally kept as same as possible to the isobar blind analysis paper money plot. All the other variables like the kappa, R etc. are retained even though they are irrelevant to the new paper. This was strongly urged by our GPC and we believe will serve us well in the long run.

Best regards,
Fuqiang

Hi FCV,

I have got comments from the rehearsal in the pre-QM on Wednesday.
I tried to reply to those comments (see the online docs) and modified the slides accordingly.
The modified slides have been uploaded to the same drupal node:

BTW, the arXiv number of our short paper for CME isobar baseline has been added.

If you have any further comments, please let me know.

Sincerely,
Yicheng
