Hi Subhash,

Thank you for your comments.

I think your comments are reasonable, and I tried to implement most of them.
The revised version has been uploaded to the same drupal node:
https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/presentations/Quark-Matter-2023/Background-Control-and-Upper-Limit-Chiral-Magnetic-Effect-Isobar-C-0
or directly through the link: https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/QM2023_Proceeding_IsobarCmeBkg_v10.pdf
To identify the changes, a latexdiff file is attached to this email.

For some of your suggestions,
1. I prefer to keep the _expression_ "This could indicate ..." in section 1. "This suggests ..." sounds too strong.
2. I added the observables "r_lab", "R_B" right after the first appearance of SBF with a reference in section 2.
3. I changed "like in jets" into "such as jets" in the item (3) of section 3.

Please let me know if you have any further comments.

Sincerely,
Yicheng

Dear Yicheng,

Very nicely written proceedings. I have a few suggestions below for your
consideration:

Please also consider including a line number.

Section: abstract:
"In this contribution, we present two post-blind analyses to address the
remaining backgrounds. ....."
--> How about the following rephrase:
"In these proceedings, we present two post-blind analyses aimed at
mitigating remaining background effects. The first involves employing an
event weighting .... The second analysis investigates the contributions
of two- and three-particle nonflow ....

Section: Introduction:
"... under strong magnetic field" --> under a strong magnetic field.

"A strong magnetic field can be produced in non-central heavy-ion
collisions by spectator proton" --> this line can be merged with the
first line in this para.

"...from differing nuclear structures of the isobars." --> ... from
variations in the nuclear structures of the isobars.

"This could indicate the potential existence of a CME signal. This could
also indicate the presence of additional background different between
the isobars."
--> This suggests the potential presence of a CME signal. It could also
....

Figure 1 and 2: You may consider adding sNN=200 GeV either in figure or
in caption for completeness.

"To understand those observations,.." --> To understand these
observations, ...

Section: 2 Forced match analysis:
"narrow centrality bin can be categorized into bins in N..." --> narrow
centrality class can be categorized into bins in N ....

"...as a weight factor, fW,bin" -->  as a weight factor, called fW,bin

"We then match all the three quantities by applying fW,bin(N, v2, EP
resolution) for the signed balance functions (SBF), which examine the
fluctuation of net momentum-ordering of charged pairs so as to study the
charge separation induced by the CME"
--> Then we match all the three quantities by applying fW,bin(N, v2, EP
resolution) for the signed balance functions (SBF). The SBF examines the
fluctuation of net momentum-ordering of charged pairs, allowing us to
study the charge separation induced by the CME.

Figure 3: caption: I guess the "r_lab" and "R_B" are not defined

Section: 3 Background baseline analysis and CME upper limit:
"The SS pair (∆η, ∆ϕ) 2D distributions are fitted to separate nonflow
from flow, where nonflow is modeled by 2D Gaussians and flow is modeled
by ∆η-independent Fourier series."
--> The 2D (∆η, ∆ϕ) distributions of SS pair are fitted to separate
nonflow from flow. Here nonflow is modeled using 2D Gaussians, while
flow is modeled using a Fourier series independent of ∆η.

"... for systematic uncertainties" --> ... for estimation of systematic
uncertainties.
Remove the duplicate line after this line.

"like in jets" --> similar to jets

"We use HIJING simulation to estimate it. Since HIJING does not have
flow, the inclusive C3 in HIJING all comes from 3p nonflow correlations
C3p."
--> We employ the HIJING simulation to estimate this term. Since HIJING
does not have flow, the inclusive C3 originates solely from 3p nonflow
correlations, denoted as C3p.

"The default HIJING simulation includes jet quenching, and that without
jet quenching is taken for systematics."
--> The standard HIJING simulation accounts for jet quenching, while the
version without jet quenching is used for systematic analysis.

"They are all consistent with the data measurements"
--> The above background baseline estimates are in agreement with the
observed data from isobar blind analysis.

"Assuming 15% CME signal difference between the isobars [10, 12], upper
limits are extracted on the CME fraction fcme in the four ∆γ
measurements."
--> Assuming 15% CME signal difference between the isobars [10, 12],
upper limits of the CME fraction (fcme) are derived for the four types
of ∆γ observables.

Thanks and regards,
Subhash
