Dear CW,

I asked "
I suggest that the correction for this sample would be different.  How can you demonstrate that my statement is incorrect ?"

"That is what the systematic uncertainty is for."

I take this to mean that you acknowledge not knowing the answer to my question.

I wasn't following your question on our correction. I believe Jinhui has addressed it in his email, and you can follow up with him if you have further questions.

Best,

Aihong

Can you explain why the nature paper corrections are so irregular, positive for some beam energies and negative for others, and very non-monotonic in beam energy?

Thanks,

Hi CW,

You said, "Detector correction is meant to correction for detector effects, not physics."

Let's not talk about physics for now. Let me try again, and I hope I have made this crystal clear. Your correction depends on the sample provided (even their daughter-kaon spectra are the same), as you've demonstrated. I just gave you a different sample with the same kaon spectra. I suggest that the correction for this sample would be different. How can you demonstrate that my statement is incorrect ?

Thanks,

Aihong

Hi Aihong,

i) On your slide 2 presented yesterday, you showed that the "correction" obtained from two cases (rotated and mixed), both satisfying the condition of having the same kaon spectra, are different. This indicates that the correction can vary even the kaon spectra are the same.

Rotation by 180 degrees destroys v3, which is not included in our folding. This could cause a difference. That's why we prefer mixed-events as a default. Pair correlations (e.g. tracking merging or splitting) could also cause a difference.

ii) Based on this conclusion, if I say that the correction for the real phi case (which also has the same kaon spectra) could also differ from either case in point i). How can we demonstrate that my statement is incorrect ?

Detector correction is meant to correction for detector effects, not physics.

Thanks,
-CW

Dear CW,

At yesterday's FCV meeting, the discussion shifted quite a bit due to back-and-forth between Fuqiang and myself. I would like to refocus on a specific point to see if we can make progress.
