Dear all,
We have received the latest prototype last Friday. Generally speaking they are better and few of them (2/20) are really good. I believe that we have pinned down the issue which is from the embedded components in the structure. I am still working with Easton to find the solution of this and there are 3 options to test now. I will keep you posted.
(1) Install the heat sink after injection.
(2) Use pure PEEK + CF sheet (TBC with AIDC).
(3) Use an advanced machine for injection (contacting the experts now).
Please find the short summary in the following link: YiYang_FST_MS_20191223.pdf
Cheers,
Yi

Attendees: Andres, Daniel, Elke, Flemming, Han-Sheng, Jianing, Mike, Prithwish, Te-Chuan, Xu, Yi, Yu, Zhenyu
FST GEANT modeling - Te-Chuan
Te-Chuan has implemented the new module structure into ROOT geometry, and is converting it to AgML. Expect to finish by the end of this week and pass it to Flemming for final check, before giving it to Jason to put into STAR official library.
Tracking studies - Daniel
1. Daniel will run his tracking code with FST and sTGC hits (smear MC hits by 100 microns or so) to establish the “optimal" tracking performance plots as reference for future studies
2. Daniel will discuss with Te-Chuan to see whether he can make the necessary changes to the FST FastSim to make it compile/run in STAR official library.
2. Daniel will work on the new tracking code to include FST hits.
3. Daniel will discuss with Krishan to get him familiar with the tracking code.
Mechanical Structure - Yi/Han-Sheng
1. Mechanical structure: The requirement of non-flatness is <100 micron. EASTON made the 4th version and sent to Yi on Thursday, with a claim that the bending issue has been improved. Yi will ask them for quantitative assessment and will also try to get them measured by AIDC early next week.
2. Thermal simulation: In order to match the simulation with measurement results (a factor of 3 heat generated than APV), Han-Sheng had to increase the thermal convection coefficient from 5 to 13 W/m2*K, which seems to be too high. It was suggested to vary the heat source output and compare the measurements with simulations. It was requested to provide more details on the simulation, so that others can understand what approximation/assumption have been made in the simulation, and whether or not they are appropriate.
3. Holding box: updated design. Yi will check if they can be 3D printed.
Test Stand at BNL - Prithwish/Yu
Empty pedestal plots. Suggested to change the config file and see if this helps.
Test Stand at UIC - Xu/Andres
1. Need to check why some IST stave sections do not have signal hits, but have otherwise established cosmic signals with IST staves.
2. Work planned to incorporate FST modules in the cosmic test stand, and setting up a laser test stand.
