Prithwish, Te-Chuan, Xu, Yi

1. Mechanical structure - Yi Yang/Han-Sheng Li
The first prototype mechanical structure is assembled at AIDC. It uses the
hybrids from the new hybrid vendor. The outer hybrid, due to the empty space
in the middle of the outer structure, is sagging into the empty space of the
structure. AIDC is working on improvement for the second prototype, which
will use the hybrids from the old hybrid vendor, by adding a supporting block
into the empty space. It is expected to be ready next Week.

The first prototype mechanical structure has been measured at AIDC using
mechanical survey gauge. The maximum deviation from a flat surface is about
150microns for the inner and 270 microns for the outer structure. It is
speculated that there is a non-negligible amount of force brought by the
mechanical gauge on the structure during the survey, making the structure
into a convex shape. Yi will find optical survey gauge to avoid this issue.
It was suggested to measure more points and Yi agreed. It was pointed out
that the measured deviation is larger than the required tolerance of 100
microns. Yi said he is in contact with AIDC to try to improve. The goal would
be to assemble two prototype mechanical structures, and discuss with Fermilab
engineers to see whether they can work with them. There is a number 1.4328 mm
quoted for the relative shift/tilt between the inner and outer structure, but
it is unclear what the number represent. Yi will try to explain later.

Yi has a plan to make the storage boxes using two different kind of materials
from two companies. Both of them are expected to be ready next week.

Yi confirmed the radiation length in GEANT model by Flemming. He will try to
calculate the weight of a module, by considering the weight of sensors, chip,
and coolant.

Yi has also purchased equipment to set up a test stand to measure the
compatibility of chosen soft cooling tubes with NOVEC. It is expected to be
ready next week. The plan would be to measure them at NCKU using this new
setup, expose the soft tubes to radiation, and remeasure it again at NCKU. We
discussed a few places where we can do the irradiation exposure. Elke will
check whether the service at BNL is free. Others will also look into other
options, such as Univ of Massachusetts at Lowell or a place mentioned by
Gerrit to Elke/Flemming. We will compose a list of such options for further
discussion.

2. Cooling system
Flemming is going to ask Rahul the status of cooling system refurbishment.

3. Prototype in STAR for Run20
It was agreed that we won’t look for installing a FST prototype module into
STAR in Run20. But we will try to integrate the detector into STAR DAQ system
during the Fall shutdown this year, when Tonko and Gerard are at BNL.

Best,
Zhenyu
