0. Follow-up on action items from previous weeks
1) Integration: send an email with detailed questions to the list to collect
information - Rahul/Felix
-> see below
2) Document the procedure and requirements of gluing hybrids onto MS for Plan
A at NTU - Yi/Han-Sheng
3) Look into radiation tolerance test of soft cooling tubes at STAR/Taiwan -
Yi/Flemming
-> exposure will be complete this week. The tubes will be sent back to NCKU
for testing.
4) Measuring hybrid flatness, thickness and dimensions - Maowu/Jianing
-> Found a global shift in the outer hybrid from the old vendor, which can
reach up to 1mm, while the shift is within 20 microns for the hybrids from
the new vendor. The latter is what Yi is using for the prototype.
5) UIC send a T-board and cable to NCKU to check if there is any conflict
with the MS - Zhenyu
6) Looking into alternative clustering algorithm to improve matching
efficiency - Xu
7) Tune the timing setting for ADC sampling - Gerard/Xu
8) Studying the tracking performance by varying the Z-locations of FST disks,
and number of r/phi segments - Daniel/Krishan
-> no significant dependence in momentum resolution on the number of
r/phi-segments, with single muon per event. Will look into Hijing
9) Looking into FST simulation and track reconstruction to compare 300 vs 500
micron thick sensors - Shenghui
1. Integration test at STAR in November - Flemming
Will decouple the integration test with DAQ and cooling system. For the
former, may use chiller water or fan to get the performance of FST close to
their working temperatures
Action item: 1) design light-tight box 2) Flemming will find out how many
inner signal cables with T-board Mike has at BNL
2. Integration - Rahul
1) Will present the new design at the forward upgrade meeting tomorrow. May
send presentation out later today.
2) Felix has changed the FST disk distances to the IR and among disks (5.5
inch), still fine-tuning cables and cooling tubes but it seem to be ok
3) It was agreed that Aluminum half-rings will be made at BNL, for which
Rahul/Felix will fix the design including the appropriate tolerance. Yi will
find out the tolerance of the MS that can be achieved. They will decide on
how to fix the MS onto the Aluminum rings, including using pins/slots and the
specification of them. May have another meeting next week.
3. Mechanical structures:
1) measured the distances of the reference vias on the hybrid: measured
(design): inner 68.445 (68.44), outer 117.38 (117.32)
2) measured the flatness of the hybrid surface after gluing onto MS: 160
microns for chip/sensor areas.
3) copper lines in the hybrids from the new vendor is 48 microns, which led
to vacuum leak of the pick-up tool. For the production hybrids, we need to
specify the copper thickness
4) conducted electrical tests last Wednesday. Will do it again after
receiving connectors from SDU, before sending to US
5) expect to ship the first module to US on June 8/9, and the second one a
week later
*** Action items ***
