Dear Zhenyu, All
thanks for the summary, I think if you have a reliable plot for 7.b you do not need anymore 7a. I would think that 7b is much easier to do than 7a.
Cheers elke

It was briefly discussed at today’s Forward Upgrade meeting what simulation studies are being pursued by the FST groups. It was suggested to prioritize these studies and post it on the FST list. In the following, I will try to summarize my personal view. Comments/suggestions are welcome.
Tasks:
6) Studying the tracking performance by varying the Z-locations of FST disks, and number of r/phi segments - Daniel/Krishan
7) Looking into FST simulation and track reconstruction to compare 300 vs 500 micron thick sensors - Shenghui
8) FST slow simulator with efficiency/resolution measured with prototypes and study tracking performance - Gavin/Shenghui
Status:
6) Previously Daniel's simulation/tracking code did not use FstFastSimulator but used an internal function to “smear” FST MC hits in a similar way as FstFastSimulator, and read in hard-coded (?) hit uncertainties in a few places in the code to do tracking. When Krishan varied the numbers of r and phi segments, he saw little/no changes in tracking performance because not all the hard-coded uncertainties were changed accordingly. Daniel is working on incorporate FstFastSimulator written by Te-Chuan into his simulation/tracking package. Krishan is waiting for the updated code from Daniel.
7) Looked at efficiency, momentum resolution, secondary particle production, and photon conversions. No significant differences were found. The distribution of primary particle z-vertex distribution is puzzling and suggested a further change in the selection is needed.
(Zhenyu/Jason) try to draw the FST material budget as a function of eta and phi, with separated contributions from different components. The total material budget for the FSTM volume looks reasonable, but problematic with separated components.
8) just started
Outcome:
6.a) A working simulation/tracking package using FstFastSimulator - must have (Daniel)
6.b) Difference in tracking performance with different number of r and phi segments - not critical (Krishan), need 6.a)
7.a) Difference between 300 and 500 micron thick Si sensors - must have (Shenghui)
7.b) Material budget plot for FST, broken up into components - not critical (Zhenyu/Jason)
8.a) FST slow simulator - must have (Gaven/Xu)
8.b) Tracking performance with FST slow simulator and Daniel’s tracking code - must have (Gavin/Shenghui), need 6.a)
*** Must have: must have for the reviews
Best,
Zhenyu
