so let me repeat:

FST _must_ do some sort of data compression because the
raw data volume coming from the APVs is too large to save
it all to disk.

As a reminder, we had zero suppression for IST, FGT and still do for GMT.
On top of that we also had pedestal subtraction.

You can inspect the code in

$CVS/StRoot/RTS/src/DAQ_FGT/fgtPed.cxx

and find the "do_zs()" method.

I provisionally set FST to follow IST exactly but we can
modify this behavior easily and write a new method.

Also note that I implemented some heuristics of my own
which tell you which channels are bad. All that is
in the fgtPed.cxx code and one can re-run it on
the data you just took.
