Hi All,

If we all agree, I will set the HV back to 160V and current trip limit to 100muA for this module.
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Best,

Xu

Hi Zhenyu,
Do you mean detector modules or HVPS modules?? I'm not at all worried about the latter.

This is ok with me.

I would like to remind everyone that we have run out of good modules. So we don’t want to damage a potentially good module.

Hi Gerard,

I could set it to 100 muA and see what happens. The 100 muA is the current hardware limit.
If we want to set it even higher, I will need to increase the hardware limit.

Best,

Xu

hi Xu,
   Thanks.
It is a reasonable concern, I don't know which will be worse for data quality - too low a bias vs. perhaps unstable bias. My complete WAG is too low may be worse.

I think we can set a trip as high as 150-200 uA without worrying about any difference in risk of damage to our hardware, compared to 25 uA.

Hi Elke and Gerard,

The trip setpoint for disk 1 module 12 outer sector is 25 muA now and the rest of modules is 10 muA.
The issue is the current fluctuates when the HV is around 100V, see attached plots.
I could set a higher trip point for this module. But I am not sure how the fluctuating current will affect the data quality.

Best,

Xu

I agree, why can we not increase the trip setpoint for this one module. and run it at a higher HV.
If it is the module it needs to be replaced anyway in the next shutdown, or the cable needs to be replaced.

Cheers elke

What is the trip setpoint set to on this problem channel now? Shall we try a significant increase in the trip setpoint? I bet we are far below any real threat of damage to the detector.

On the other hand of course, if the data will clearly be good even at reduced bias 80 V, then that is a better choice. I can't really comment on that.

Sincerely,

     Gerard

Subject: Access for FST Disk 1 Module 12

Hi All,

We have completed the ABC board replacement for Disk 1 Module 12, unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem of current fluctuations.
We have done the following to diagnose the issue:
1: swap ABC 42 (the one we suspect with fluctuation issue) with ABC 14, the same u207 HV channel shows current fluctuation and trips at 100 V.
2. swap HV channel u207 with u205 (on the same ISEG) to check the ISEG module itself. After swapping, u205 starts fluctuating and trips the HV channel. This suggests the ISEG module is fine and the issue is downstream.
3. to further confirm, we swapped the gray cable on the same ABC 14. After the swapping, u205 connects to Disk 1 module 12 outer sector and u207 connects to Disk 1 module 11 outer sector. u205 fluctuates and trips again, which confirms the issue is downstream.

The issue could be on the gray cable, PPB, purple cable or module itself. We cannot investigate/fix the issue without opening the pole tip and have access to the FST.

The module was running at 80V yesterday and was quite stable.
I would propose we run this module at 80V for the outer sector from now.

Best,

Xu and Yu
