Dear Derek,

Thanks a lot for the explanation and updated version.
I don't have any further comments on your nice slides.

Cheers,
Yi

Hi Yi,

No worries! And thanks for the feedback! You can find my responses and the version of my slides with your suggestions implemented below.

> p7, about the TPS definition, what does r^1.5 mean? Why not r^2? How do you know the yellow regions in the plots are 95% pure pi0 and the green regions correspond to photons?

The funny exponent in the denominator was tuned in simulation studies to maximize the separation in TSP between broad EM showers in the BEMC (like pi0 to 2 photon decays) and narrow EM showers (like single photons): thus low TSP values correspond to broader, pi0-like showers and higher TSP values correspond to narrower, single photon-like showers. The particular TSP ranges we use to select pi0 and gamma-rich triggers (which aren't just direct photons, but also hadronic decays and fragmentation photons) were also tuned and validated in simulations. (Likewise, the purity on the pi0s was assessed using simulations.) You can find some more info in the previous STAR publications making use of the TSP:

> p12: Why didn't you use the STAR tune? (I believe it has been discussed, so just for my own education

Really just because the default tune is what we had on hand. We're working right now on preparing the corresponding curves using the STAR-tune of PYTHIA-6, but those need some more time...

> p17: What does "p+p style different" mean?

The systematic uncertainty bands here are represented as hatched bands rather than as solid bands, as they had been on previous slides. I added some text to clarify that the style is different from previous slides!

> p18: Probably it is good to indicate the PYTHIA tune here as well. What does "smeared PYTHIA-8" mean?

It indicates the eTtrg of the PYTHIA-8 curves has been shifted and smeared to account for the resolution on the trigger energy (like we did on the PYTHIA-8 jet pT distributions). I've made the wording consistent with slide 12 and added a hyphen between eTtrg and "shifted" to make it more clear!

Hi Derek,

Just minor comments from my side, and I sign off your nice talk.
- Title: "200 GeV" should be in one line
- s5: add I_AA definition
- s7: at the bottom: Small TSP Values -> Small TSP Values: Pi0
Large TSP Values -> Large TSP Values: \gamma_rich
- s13: you show the comparison to Pythia on the next slide, I would remove related bullets from this slide.

Cheers,
Barbara
