Hi Subhash,
I'm sorry I was unable to attend the HP meeting where your analysis preview was shown, but looking through your slides, I have a few questions. The first is, why are you using the ZDC rather than than the EPD? The latter will give you much better EP resolution with its larger acceptance, and still has a significant eta gap. Cross-checks are of course, always useful.
Secondly, I don't think I would consider a 5 GeV cluster that only requires a 2 GeV track a jet. I think we really need to be careful in what we are doing - the main point is that a jet is an object whose cross-section can be calculated with a reasonable degree of accuracy using pQCD. That line is a bit squishy, but 5 GeV is on the low side. However, the much bigger issue is the one of combinatorial jets - even with the smaller isobar system that selection will be dominated by this. While Tristan's toy model studies on the issue were for v2, I can't imagine that it would be so different for v1. So we'd have to be careful to remove the combinatorial jets, and to show that the background subtraction is reasonable.
When I look at your figure on slide 9 for the Zr-Zr, at ~5 GeV there seems to be a huge difference between the requirement of 2 GeV or 3 GeV leading track, which indicates that you still have a large background contribution. For Sooraj's earlier analysis, with 7 - 10 GeV hadrons, I think we can be much more certain of the physics processes that were selected.
I think it is really interesting and important to understand where the D v1 comes from - as you show in your slides we naively believe that hard processes should not have any intrinsic v1, and thus anything we see should be due to medium interactions.... But I think this is what makes the D0 measurement so interesting, it is far largely than one would expect for this naive assumption. It would be really interesting to have a second hard process to compare. Due to the complicated nature of the physics, it would be good to focus on a kinematic region that is really dominated by the hard process.
Cheers,
Rosi
