Hi Youqi,

My apologies for late response.

Thank you for your reply. Your replies sound reasonable to me.

Two additional question.

_On slide20:
As you mentioned in your reply #2 that you have used JP trigger.
Have you used the same trigger condition for PYTHIA, HERWIG simulations for calculating SS and OS jet fraction?

_Have you performed any study to know if this r_c observable depends on any trigger jet selection?
For example, instead of JP trigger jet, if you use inclusive jet or any higher energy trigger jet sample, does rc vs jet pT behavior, or value of rc, change depending on trigger jet selection?

Thank you
Nihar

Hi Nihar,

Thanks for the questions. I will try to answer them in this email.

1) Yes, I'm using PYTHIA+GEANT's mistagged distributions for this
subtraction. I have checked the mistagged distributions in HERWIG+fast
sim as well (slide 20), and they are consistent with PYTHIA's. I added
a slide for comparison between data and PYTHIA+GEANT on slide 27 at
https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/pwg_meeting_081023_updated_0813.pdf.

2) The rc observable has a bias from the jet patch trigger below jet
pT of 20 GeV. In simulations, we can choose whether to implement the
JP trigger or not, and look at the corresponding truth jets that are
matched to the reconstructed jets. This can be seen from the second
plot on slide 24, where the truth jet population below 20 GeV is
affected by the trigger. We therefore decided to not report results
below 20 GeV to avoid potential bias introduced by the trigger. This
lower jet pT cutoff is also consistent with the lower jet pT cutoff in
the other jet substructure measurements (such as the jet mass analysis
by Isaac, the jet charge analysis by Grant, and the SD analyses by
Monika).

3) Right now the binning in 30-40 GeV is limited by the statistical
uncertainty of the embedding that is used for mistagged subtraction. I
will look into the finer binning once we have the higher statistics
embedding fully setup.

Please let me know if these sound reasonable and/or if you have any
other suggestions/followup!

Best,
Youqi

Hello Youqi,

Thank you for your nice study.
I was going through your correction procedure.

a few follow up questions:

1) On slide8:

https://drupal.star.bnl.gov/STAR/system/files/pwg_meeting_081023_new_0.pdf
As you are using PYTHIA models to subtract mistagged jet
contribution
which is a model dependent way, Could you please show the following
results to validate "Mistagged (fake) subtraction" procedure?

It is important to show the comparison between each component of
your rc
observables of data and that in PYTHIA+GEANt simulation.
Like N_ss, N_os, and Jet pT dist. of data vs PYTHIA+GEANT.

2) Can you please show your rc results at lower Full Jet pT range?
For
example below jet pT < 20 GeV/c. 5 to 20 GeV/c range.

3) and is it possible to make your jet pT bins size a bit smaller,
for
example, 30-35 and 35-40 instead of 30-40 GeV/c. To know if there is
any
change in shape.

Thank you
Nihar
