Hi Ding,There was a DO trainee, Joseph Atchison, during your shift. Could you please write a few words about the training. The formal instructions are attached with this email.Best,Ashik (for the shift QA board)--Ashik IkbalResearch AssociateKent State UniversityDepartment Of PhysicsKent, OH 44242, USAContact no.s: +1 631-504-7647 (USA)Alternate e-mails: asheikh2@kent.eduOn behalf of the STAR shift QA board we request you to make sure that the trainee(s)has completed all the required trainings (as appropriate) as described at:Please review the expectations for the trainee(s)as mentioned in the latter part of this email. It is suggested that youensure that all the detector operation manuals are studied duringthe first few days of the shifts to better understand all of the detectorsystems. It is also suggested that the shift leader and the detector operator walkthrough commonly occurring problems with the trainee(s), and discusshow they are addressed (roles for each shift position is described at:A walk-through of all the locations and actions required in emergencies(fire alarm, fire, gas alarms, etc.), as described in the CA operations page, should be done (this is mandatory for a shift leader trainee & optional for a DOtrainee). The 3D panorama view of the STAR experiment can be found at :When your shift is over, please compose a short paragraph thatsummarizes the status of the training. Three topics are of interest: 1.) Was there sufficient beam during the week to conduct the training ? 2.) Did the trainee(s) experience a wide variety of normal and abnormal circumstances, and did the trainee(s) learn to handle them correctly ? 3.) Do you feel that the trainee(s) is(are) ready to assume responsibilities as a shift leader or a detector operator (as appropriate)? In short, do you recommendthat the candidate(s) to be certified to take shifts on behalf of the STAR Collaboration? You may also ask one of your Detector Operators to write a reportfor the DO trainee. In case you have reservations about a candidate becoming certified, then you might also consider the following list of items to guide yourthoughts :Was the candidate motivated and interested in learning about theexperiment? Do you feel that the candidate demonstrated that he/she was sufficiently aware of the contents of the various sub-system instruction and procedure documents? Do you feel that the candidate gave the required amount of attention to monitoring the status of the accelerator and STAR data taking throughout the periods of shift? Were there enough opportunities to learn & operate the detectors (to turn them on/off, recover from trips, to go through "prepare for physics" and "prepare for dump" procedures, to perform a laser run, etc.)? Did the candidate obtain relevant experience with the global slow control system (Alarm Handler), DAQ, and/or trigger? For detector operators, does the candidate know how to efficiently determine the subsystem which is causing an alarm and how to respond to it? English language proficiency is important. The detector operators and the shift leaders must be able to communicate effectively withthe RHIC control room, and shift leaders must be able to communicate effectively with the Fire and Rescue crews. Please send your report to (<star-sqaboard-l@lists.bnl.gov<mailto:star-sqaboard-l@lists.bnl.gov>>), but pleasealso cc your report directly to me <ashikhep@gmail.com>.Please let us know in case you have any questions andissues related to the trainee(s).
