Dear NSF L2Ms/DL2Ms,
The fun never stops. Now that we're prepared for the FDR, we need to start thinking about the next review: the Full Life Cycle Cost Review on Sep. 30. This will be a one-day review of NSF contributions to HL-LHC I&C, Software & Computing, and M&O. I will give the I&C talk. You don't need to attend the review - but I do need some information from you.
The main thing is a summary of how you constructed the I&C effort estimates for I&C for your deliverables.
- which system did you use as an analogy (or did you do a "bottom-up" estimate)?
- what effort numbers did you assume for the analogous system (even if they're just guesses)?
- or, show the breakdown for your bottom-up estimate
- what scaling did you assume between the analogous system and your system
I'll undoubtedly have other questions, but this is the most urgent one.
Once I've digested the numbers, I'll send you a summary of what we're getting out of P6/Cobra for NSF I&C so that you can check it. But if you could send me answers to the estimation method questions above in the next few days, that would be great. I have a practice talk on Monday Sep.9.
Thanks - Hal
