Subject: Re: LAr BCP-042 Covid

Hi,

I think we all agree that we don't want to have, one year from now, old

tasks at 0% that we will never complete.  So we can either mark them

complete or delete them.

I think if the travel doesn't happen because of COVID, and we are in the

middle of doing a COVID BCP, the preference is obviously to delete the

tasks in question.

For NSF, it's not at all clear that they'll let us do the COVID BCP, so

there the situation is a bit different.  Given that travel is such a

small fraction of the project, it may then be easier to just mark those

tasks complete.  I don't think that's inherently cheating, it's

equivalent to a task that was easier than foreseen and required fewer

resources.

That said, I think sometime next year we're going to have to revisit all

the travel in the project, as travel specifically for eg FDRs or PRRs

will certainly come to an end.  Such meetings will become online-only fr

the long term.

Best,

Gustaaf

Subject: COVID impact

The DOE part of the COVID impact is being evaluated.    During the preparation, Jenn pointed out that a couple of travel tasks were not completed, while the associated design work was completed.  Therefore, the task will be removed, along with the funding associated with the task.

At today L2 meeting, it was pointed out that if a travel could not happen because of COVID, but the relevant work was carried out via teleconference, then the task can be marked as complete, and you get to keep the funding.

If you have similar cases, please consider the option.
