This is indeed a very important milestone we reached, thanks to our strong team.

Looking forward to the official report.

Enjoy the weekend, and the upcoming Thanksgiving.

                Best,

                Hong.

Hi all,

I attended this afternoon at CERN the FDR for the ALFE PA/S. The review
went very well, and I have already heard informally that the green light
will be given to submit the pre-production engineering run. That is
great new, and is another very major milestone achieved!
Congratulations to the BNL team on this very successful outcome of many
years of intensive work!
It is great to see that we have now successfully completed the
development phases of our custom ASICs, which started many years ago.
There are surely still challenges to be faced in the preproduction and
then production of ~80k chips for each of ALFE and COLUTA.  However, it
was not long ago that it was quite unclear whether it would even be
possible to develop custom rad-tol ASICs, particularly with such low
power rails, that would be able to meet our very stringent analog
performance requirements. Not only have we now successfully accomplished
this, but we did for both ASICs with one less iteration that we
originally believed would be needed!

        All the best,
                        John
