Dear Jon, Gustaaf, John and Philippe,

Happy New Year! I hope that this email finds all of you well.

This year I have made a very difficult decision, I am going to help my parents who are both over 80 (81 and 86) and are in very poor health conditions. I cannot delay this any further.

Because of this I will not be at SMU to work on the upgrade projects any more. In LAr, the SMU team has finished the design and prototype verification of the data and control links for FEB2, and is constructing the QC system for the regrouped VTRx+ optical modules. In ITK-pixel, the SMU team has completed the design and verification of the GBCR ASIC, and is working with SLAC and Bern to gather materials for the FDR/PRR. In the meantime, the team is also constructing the QC system for testing about 7000 GBCR chips for the entire readout system. Going forward, I do not see any technical difficulties, it’ll only be organization and execution work. If I may, I would suggest that Ryszard Stroynowski or Allison Deiana be the PI for the rest of the projects at SMU, and Kent Liu be the key engineer with help from the junior engineer Andrey Ryzhov who is coming to SMU in February.  I will provide technical help as much as I can to ensure a successful completion of the two projects.

I would like to thank you all for the support and help that you gave me these many years. I really appreciate that.

With my best regards,

Jingbo
