Hi all,

See this request from the PO, for all institutions (both NSF and DOE). The collected impact statements are due to the PO by Tues. Aug. 20, so please ask your institute contacts to get them to me by Fri. Aug. 16.
Any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
John

L2 Managers and Deputy L2Ms --

As we discussed at the CCB earlier, please coordinate the collection of a set of impact statements for each institute with which you work, asking them to briefly describe the impact of the FY24 research funding levels on their group’s ability to execute their 2024/25 upgrade work scope.  We need input from both NSF- and DOE-funded groups, and from both universities and national laboratories.

We’d like to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible -- limiting these to 0.5-1.0 pp for each group is a reasonable target.  A sentence or two establishing the context by looking backward or forward in time by, say, one year is certainly reasonable to include, particularly in cases where it is of special relevance to 2024/25 work.  Just to be clear, this refers to the impact of reduced grant/research funding levels only, not project funds.

You should please assume this version will be seen only by the PO -- we may get back to some of you with questions or comments for iteration, if/as needed, before discussing it with either agency, if indeed the data supports the utility of such a discussion at this moment.  As an initial step, however, we need to develop a quantitative understanding of our situation to inform the nature of our story moving forward as well as any next steps.

Please collect the information from your L2 system and get a single package from your subproject in to us by two weeks from today -- Tue, Aug 20.

Much appreciated -- many thanks -- best --

Jon, Gustaaf, Mike, Hal, Penka
