Dear All,
Below please find the minutes from our eRHIC IR Design meeting that was held on Friday, 4/27/2018. Please note that our next meeting will be on Friday May  11th, at 3 pm.
    Greetings,
        Bill

Minutes from the eRHIC IR Design meeting held on 4/27/18

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    * This meeting was a bit unusual, as the draft agenda, set at the previous meeting, was that we'd discuss how the Director's review of the draft pCDR, held earlier in the week, had gone.
    - One topic that came out of this discussion was what topics came out of the review should we consider prioritizing for near term effort. The ideas that came up were:
        - Address the issue with the crossing angle at the IR. As commented on at the review, this angle should be locked down as soon as is impracticable, so that work can proceed on with the final crossing angle chosen.
        - Checking the geometry (i.e. looking at how well items fit in the existing RHIC tunnel
        - Documenting, if missing, any info on the magnet angles in the IR design.
        - RF related issues and/or constraints for the Crab cavities.
        - Rotating the IR
        - Beam pipe studies/iterations
            - Impedance
            - checking that the vacuum pipe rings don't overlap geometrically
A likely time scale would be on the order of six months to make significant progress on these topics

  * Ferdi brought up a question Why or whether one of the rear magnets, I believe Q2 Re (?) is not a combined function magnet.
    - This led to quite a bit of discussion about the evolution of the design of this magnet, and that there are still ideas to be fleshed out and pursued.
   * Ferdi also pointed out that the recommendations from the review would be put into a tracking work sheet.

    * We then walked through Bob's presentation (1804_discussion.pdf)
        - Issues that came to light in the preparations for the review
        - Slide #1, separation of the hadron beam from the neutron cone.
        - Slide #2, "Matched" solutions t what was shown in slide #1.
        - Slide #3, Possible fixes.
        - Slide #4, geometry if fixes were to be implemented.
        - Slide #5, Shows issues with the magnet that moved in Guillame's matching.
        - Slide #6, Summary
=> Thanks to Elke for taking minutes for remainder of meeting, all mistakes Bill's.
        - Comment by Guillaume: B1 can be moved, but the impact on the matching needs to be checked.
        - Rear side:
            - need to optimize the magnets
            - several perturbations possible
            - got Stephens input the rings overlap
    * Request by Elke and Alexander:
        - We need the Heavy Ion optics
        - Crab cavity functions
            - Phase advance along the beam axis
            - take a look at relation between angle and distance
        - Need at one moment nuclear beam parameters
        - Need injection optics to see the aperture of the magnets are ok

    * Next meeting
    - meet in two weeks (May 11th)
    - Agenda topic is RF.
        - Crab Cavities, and issues associated with increased crossing angle
        Invite the following people:
        - Doug Holmes
        - Qiong Wu
        - Kevin Smith
        - Vadim should be in attendance

                     End of meeting
