Dear Bill,

Thanks for always very useful minutes, which keep us informed about recent progress and proposed modifications in IR design.

Just a short comment on possible integration issues you discussed related the possible 1m shift inside the ring and additional 10 mr rotation of the IR. sPHENIX engineers are aware about this possibility. Probably more detailed look is needed,  but at the moment, they do not see any issues with it (as sPHENIX is considerably narrower than PHENIX, so more radial space is available).

Regards,

Sasha.

Dear All,
Below please find the minutes from our eRHIC IR Design meeting that
was held on Friday, 10/5/2018. Please note that our next meeting will be
on Friday October 19th, starting at 2:30 pm.
     Greetings,
         Bill

Minutes from the eRHIC IR Design meeting held on 10/5/18
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* We started with a brief discussion of the agenda for the meeting.

* We started with a verbal update by Doug on the integration issues in the IR region.
   - Recent iterations with Stephen
   - Had to move IR towards the inside of the RHIC ring by 1 m. Has now done so.
   - Still in progress
   - The current configuration includes:
      - 1 m radial move of the IR towards inside of RHIC ring.
      - 10 mr rotation of the entire IR design configuration about a vertical axis through the collision point.
      - 25 mr crossing angle for the beams.
   - Looks promising.
   - Next there needs to be an update from Guillaume on the Hadron ring.
   - Question whether this integration issue has been looked at for both IR 6 and IR 8?
      - Not clear, but likely this has only been looked at for IR 6.
   - Need to determine what the constraints are for sPHENIX to be an eRHIC detector.

* Simulation Update (verbal) from Elke:
   - Looked at whether nuclei can be detected if only one nucleon is knocked out.
      - getting setup for this study
   - looking into coherent vs incoherent scattering
   - Nothing yet for the new IR design. Waiting to get the next complete IR design.
   - Working with Christoph to get things ready for the upcoming EIC Collaboration mtg at the end of October.
 - Bob will give the IR talk at the JLAB mtg.

* Brief discussion on pCDR costs.
* Brief discussion on the MADX files/software and its limitations.

* Walk through Bob's latest IR design update (version 8a): File attached.
   - Slide #6:
       - Boxes represent the magnet apertures
       - "tiling" the magnets (offsetting along beam lines e and hadron magnets) gives much more geopmetric space between the e and hadron lines.
   - Bob and Brett will discuss ability to change the B1 field strength with Guillaume.
   - Slide #9:
      - Tilt angles are given with respect to the hadron beam.
   - Slide #22:
     - Rear side for Hadron beams
       - Blue = Y divergence
       - Red = X divergence
       - dotted = scaled X
>>>>> Bob proposes that the apertures shown on Slide #22 is accepted as a "constraint" on the IR design. "Estimate" of the worst case. <<<<
   - Slide #25:
     - 22 mr listed should be 25 mr
   - End of presentation.

* Discussion:
   - It was decided (prior to today's meeting) that Brett would be in chanrge of the cost estimate for the IR magnets.
   - The proposal is to take Bob's latest design, version 8a.

* Next meeting:
   - In two weeks, which means on Friday, October 19th.
   - Agenda is to have dry runs of the presentations that will be shown at the EIC Collaboration meeting.
   - Elke will (and did) arrange for a dial in. Info. is below:
