Dear ECCE Enthusiasts,

We are writing to update you on the schedule for the next ECCE bi-weekly meeting and activities since the announcement of the DPAP recommendations.

We would like to hold the next bi-weekly meeting on March 28th. While we originally wanted to meet on the 21st, the time between the last meeting we organized on March 10th, soon after the DPAP closeout, and now, proved to be too short. The Teams informed us that they would benefit from more time to get the first paper drafts ready for presentation and discussion, and the SC also feels more time is needed to discuss our path forward with the project and the integration of other groups. We feel we will be able to give you a better update for input and discussion on March 28th.

We realize that everyone is excited about what’s coming next. The EIC project has communicated to us that they recognize that the panel recommended ECCE as the Project Detector. They also stress the panel recommendations to (1) integrate new collaborators in a manner that enables them to make contributions that impact the capabilities and success of the experiment in significant ways, including new collaborating individuals and groups into positions of responsibility and leadership; and (2) integrate new experimental concepts and technologies that improve physics capabilities without introducing inappropriate risk. ECCE is the reference design for this optimization and consolidation so that the Project Detector can advance to CD-2/3a in a timely way. To address the panel recommendations, and as discussed in the last bi-weekly meeting, we have started discussions with the other proto-collaborations, and in particular ATHENA, the national labs, the EIC project, and the EICUG SC, and several meetings are anticipated to take place in the next week.

Overall a path forward is starting to emerge. We are moving ahead in a manner consistent with the intent that we stated in the proposal to re-organize following the DPAP recommendation in a way that is inclusive to all members of the EIC community, and that will best benefit the project detector effort. We would like to emphasize that our plans have not changed, and we look forward to working with our colleagues from the EIC community towards realizing the first EIC detector.
