Hi again

Sorry to add to the inbox flux, but trying to capitalize on some enthusiasm
here...

If there's a unit any of you would like the group to consider pushing through
for approval by the LESC for people like us to own and plug in to the five
220V outlets that are at Bldg. 452 (which are NEMA L6-20 outlets, not NEMA
6-20) when they aren't in use, I'd be willing to help push for that. We would
need to have VERY clear documentation on the unit's certification so that the
LESC can judge for themselves (not taking our word) that the device is safe
to plug in to an outdoor 220V outlet at an industrial (not just residential)
site. The unit would definitely need NOT to say "recommended for indoor use,"
and I'm unsure what else the LESC might demand. We might even have difficulty
with the LESC approving an L6-20P to 6-20R adapter!

One thing I considered that might help with this is agreeing to have EVCP
users take some level of electrical safety training. That doesn't help with
getting the LESC to approve the hardware's safety against damaging BNL's
infrastructure, but may allow them to approve *our* usage of the hardware.

It's an uphill fight (meeting with the LESC has been one of my most
frustrating experiences at BNL), but one I'd be willing to pursue with help
from others on finding a unit worthy of making that effort (reasonable cost,
over-certified for safety).

Lastly, a note on the terminology. Each of you almost certainly has the Level
1 or 2 "charger" inside your vehicle. The device you're using between the
vehicle and the outlet is an "EVSE". A "charging station" is a loose term,
and may be a permanently-mounted Level 2 EVSE, or a Level 3 charger. Vehicles
don't have Level 3 chargers on board, so the charger and EVSE are in one
device at so-called "fast" or "super" chargers.

Thanks,
-Gene
