FYI. Alexei and I were not able to attend this because of the ATLAS meeting at Stony Brook. Note the 'do not share outside BNL' requirement.

Good morning,

All, first thank you all for participating in the internal AI workshop last Thursday. I thought it was a very productive day, filled with simulating talks and very productive discussions. I was particularly pleased to see so many conversations happening between people in different directorates. That was one of the main goals of the workshop – to get more people more familiar with the breadth of AI activities happening across the lab, and with each other. That seemed to be happening and hopefully you found it as enjoyable and stimulating as I did.

One of the other goals of the day was to advance our thinking on how to respond if and when a large AI call comes out, like the FASST initiative. There too we took some steps in thinking about the grand ideas we have and what the challenges are there that we need to address. Lot more thinking needs to be done there as we refine our strategy, but again it was a very useful day.

Another goal was to let people know about the upcoming AI jam (Feb 28th) and we will continue to keep you posted on what that looks like and how to take part (there will be a selection process). In the meantime, start thinking about how you might use the very latest version of ChatGPT to address your science problems. Recall, we will be looking for people who have experience using it and for problems that can be “telescoped” i.e. scaled up.

For your reference, here are the talks from last Thursday. These are not to be shared outside BNL.

Finally, we had some discussion of our strengths and weaknesses. For your amusement attached is the presentation ChatGPT made for me on the subject!

Thank you again for participating.
