FYI. We've started discussing this in US ATLAS, thus far Paolo Calafiura has commented...

I don't think we can have a US ATLAS proposal: the FOA considers out of scope proposals for

system-specific, discipline-specific and/or application-specific approaches that do not generalize to multiple applications or multiple target platforms;

At LBL the previous round of X-Stack went entirely to CS types. They had HEP use cases from cosmology IIRC. I believe that projects like harvester, raythena, and xroot/xcache would be in scope.

DOE ASCR has issued the following call for proposals: DOE to Provide $12 Million for Research on Adapting Scientific Software to Run on Next-Generation Supercomputers, the call itself can be found here: https://science.osti.gov/-/media/grants/pdf/foas/2021/SC_FOA_0002460.pdf

 

Pre-proposal deadline is: March 1, 2021 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Each Lab can only submit 2 pre-proposals, 1 per PI, for this reason we will have a down selection at the lab level:

• By Friday February 5^th please submit a pre-proposal following the attached format to CSIProposals AT bnl.gov
• We will notify you about the down select result by Wednesday February 10^th
• Encouraged pre-proposals will be due for red team review by Friday February 19^th
