Paul's words ring good to me. We should not fail to meet BelleII
obligations! If "borrowing" from BelleII is taking a toll we better
find ways to pay back.
That said.... :)
Paul and I have talked about tackling some work involving Wire-Cell
Toolkit for multi-host I/O and GPU sharing between multi-threaded WCT
apps. In addition to the more main tasks, we were thinking to engage
this idea to shore up a full human post-doc with major funding from DUNE
computing and minor (1/4) from some funds freed up by CSI paying 1/2 of
one of EDG's postdocs. Strict accounting gives funds for 1.25 FTE
post-doc and then maybe with Hong's largess that could become 2.0
humans. You said "creative" but maybe I answer with "crazy"....
My only other thought is even more vague. EDG is in the process of
hiring a new staff scientist who, hopefully, brings their own novel
agenda to the group. In particular, issues related to the DUNE near
detector complex have been so far somewhat less of a focus by EDG and
there is a fair chance the new person may bring needed focus to the near
detector. This potentially brings in all new opportunities for BNL to
expand further into DUNE. What/who/how? I dunno. Of course, we won't
know for sure what becomes of this hire until well after you need to
tell Hong something so this might be useless info.
That's all I got, such as it is.
-Brett.
