Further point of info on Malachi, he hails from PNNL, and has a lot more than that in common with Kerstin and David Asner. Peas in a pod one might say.

Hello, Torre:

Malachi (in CC:) and I have been discussing a project on building up expertise on real-time reconstruction. We would like to work in two directions:

  1. A data-science direction where we will translate the vertexing, tracking, and particle identification at NP experiments into ML algorithms.
  2. An advanced computing direction where we will test the ML algorithms on heterogeneous computing architecture.

and have the following deliverable in mind:

  • A prototype of a reconstruction code for one of our running experiments, e.g., GlueX, that can run on FPGAs and an HPC system.

We are wondering if you and your group would be interested in joining this project. It could be extended to sPHENIX, STAR, or/and ATLAS.

A possible funding opportunity could be:

Here, Malachi and I interpret the following quote widely: "The HEP program explicitly encourages applications from non-traditional HEP institutions and researchers that may broaden the participation in HEP research and the AI sub-field.”

Please let us know what you think about our idea? This could be a good opportunity for a multidisciplinary BNL-JLab project

Best regards,

Markus.
