Major revision

Labs are not allowed to submit “Seed Applications” by single-institutions.  Therefore, all our applications will be evaluated with the multi-institution application track, and we are limited to submit 4 proposals.

Since we've been ordered to submit/lead one from NPPS I've agreed with Meifeng that we should base one on the ML services LDRD, I talk to her Wed 4pm about putting together the few sentences needed for Fri. If others want to join they're welcome, if they include CERNers we'll change the time.

Further clarification from Jeremy Love, thanks to Peter Boyle for bringing up the question.

                Best,

                Hong.

Subject: RE: meeting to discuss HEP FOA

Dear All,

Please, see feedback from OHEP on the questions we raised during our meeting today below. And here is the link to the FOA Website where two sessions to provide feedback on FOA related questions are listed

https://science.osti.gov/hep/Research/Artificial-Intelligence-AI

1.            FOA has text “Applications for work currently supported by DOE or other funding entities are outside the scope of this FOA” -  what “other funding agencies” means? NSF?

A. The intention is to fund new research projects, similar to the Early Career program.  The scope of work proposed should not, for example, appear in an active BNL FWP or already be supported through subawards from NSF, NASA, or another funding entity. (Laboratories, including LDRDs, are not funding agencies).

2.            Are you planning to have feedback to PIs on LOIs? More specifically do you plan to discourage any of the submitted LoIs from submitting full proposals?

A. The LOIs will be used to gauge the level of interest from the community and prepare the review process.  We do not intend to discourage LOIs from submitting full proposals.

3.            There is potentially overlap with SciDAC FOA in some proposals. Do you know when SciDAC funding announcement is expected?

A. The review process for the SciDAC-5 applications is on-going and pending final decisions.  Unfortunately, I do not have a concrete timeline, but we are working to move as expediently as possible.

Thanks, Dmitri.
