Greetings,

What I heard from the Torre at Leadership Team discussions was the STAR needs to provide a document. I did provide. I don't recall hearing that this needed to be provided only to NPPS Leadership. And my understanding is that Torre has already brought the case to Christel, so STAR's perspective is in further support of that case. It does not stand alone, and I do not see how it would undermine Torre's case. I cannot imagine Christel treating it as a separate item from the case Torre has brought. Why would she do so when, as noted in the forwarded email below, I specifically said this is tied to the case regarding Dmitri Smirnov?

Beyond what's in the Memo, I can try to add details, i.e. gather additional incidents of conflict with others within STAR. But otherwise, what I wrote in the Memo is what I would send to the NPPS Leadership Team if that is desirable, and I am willing to share the text of what I wrote.

Contrary to what I asked for and what we discussed, Gene sent this memo directly to Christel. It's now part of the indelible record of the case. As I read it, STAR taking this autonomous approach was not helpful towards presenting a coherent uniform case as I had planned. HR now has in their hands a purely STAR perspective, regarding a member of the NPPS group where the responsibilities and expectations are different relative to someone working just for STAR. (I explained the differences to Gene recently and he agreed.) But it all rests on how Christel sees it. We'll see what we hear from her in reaction to this.

Christel,

Please find attached a Memo that I, representing the STAR Group at BNL through my role as liaison to the NPPS Group (also in the Physics Department at BNL), have written to document opposition to certain work assignments for Dmitri Smirnov. I believe you are already familiar with this case and how Dmitri's currently funded position dictates that he be assignable to work for STAR.

Thank you,
-Gene
