As I read it, STAR taking this autonomous approach was not helpful towards presenting a coherent uniform case as I had planned. HR now has in their hands a purely STAR perspective, regarding a member of the NPPS group where the responsibilities and expectations are different relative to someone working just for STAR. Please find attached a Memo that I, representing the STAR Group at BNL through my role as liaison to the NPPS Group (also in the Physics Department at BNL), have written to document opposition to certain work assignments for Dmitri Smirnov. I believe you are already familiar with this case and how Dmitri's currently funded position dictates that he be assignable to work for STAR.
