Dear sPHENIX cold QCD'ers,
If you are usually (or occasionally) at BNL, you may be interested in
the information below from Thomas Ullrich. As he says, there have been
weekly meetings of a BNL EIC task force for some years. In principle,
it was always an open meeting, but it had evolved over time to the point
that that really didn't seem an apt description of how it functioned.
Very recently BNL and Stony Brook Univ. jointly established a new
center, the Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS), headed by
Abhay Deshpande. They're taking this occasion to recraft a set of
EIC-focused local meetings, which you can read about in Thomas' email.
Two of these meetings are explicitly open to all, so you may find that
you'd like to put these on your calendar.
Regards,
Dave

Dear All,
Since the formation of the EIC Task Force in 2009 we have had weekly
meeting here at BNL. These were instrumental for discussions in shaping
the EIC Physics case and especially lively during the writing of the EIC
White Paper.
With the transition from the EIC Task Force to the EIC Working Group and
creation of the SBU/BNL Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (CFNS)
and the EIC User Group (EICUG) we consider it now a good time to revisit
the nature and activities of this group, and align the activities toward
the next milestones anticipated for the EIC.
One aspect of this is to change our meeting schedule in view of the
activities anticipated due to the Center and the EICUG. The TF meeting
that included local group issues, analysis discussions, and featured
seminars of wider interest will be phased out and replaced by a new
schedule:
_New Meeting Schedule:_
* BNL EIC Working Group Meeting
Time: Every second Thursday 2pm, alternating with CFNS Working Meetings
These are reserved for local (BNL) EIC working group discussions. The group
Meeting takes place in 2-160 160 (bldg 510) until the CFNS area at BNL
is ready.
* Joint CFNS Working Meetings
Time: Every second Thursday 2pm
These are working meetings of people from both sites of the CFNS (BNL
and SBU) and the BNL EIC working group (former TF). The venue alternates
between the CFNS center at SBU and BNL. These meetings are open to all
*EIC enthusiasts* including EIC User Group members.
All meetings will ultimately take place in the CFNS locations at BNL and
Stony Brook when ready. They will be announced via the respective
mailing lists.
* CFNS Seminars
Time: 4pm every second Thursday (tea and cookies at 3:30pm)
These are regular seminars on EIC topics. The venue will be alternating
between BNL and SBU. Needless to say, these seminars are open for everyone.
The seminars are held right after the “Joint CFNS Working Meetings”.
They will be announced via the respective mailing lists.
Best regards,
Abhay, JH, Thomas, Raju
