Hi Yuji,

No particular ideas, I was just wondering what the test configuration would look like. Without an EMCal in front you wouldn’t be able to examine the effect of the plug door on the class of events that start to shower in the EMCal, but it looks like you will have that.

Good luck!

John

Hi John,

I heard the main test will be performed for the STAR FCS configuration with EMCal (refurbished PHENIX PbSc, I think) + HCal. For our test for EMC-sPHENIX with steel, we plan to test only HCal without EMCal. Do you have an idea to test EMCal + steel + HCal?

Hi Yuji,

This is a very interesting development!

Do you plan to have some sort of an EMCal in front of the steel simulating the flux return, or just the steel and the hadronic calorimeter?

John

Dear Cold QCD TG members,

Separately from the forward EMCal discussion, we (RIKEN group) are working with STAR forward upgrade + EIC R&D group for the forward HCal R&D. For the calorimeter test, there will be a Fermilab test beam from April 3rd to 23rd. On this occasion of the HCal beam test, we are going to take a data for the EIC-sPHENIX which mimic the return yoke of the Babar magnet and study its effect for the HCal performance. We will compare the performance with and without the 10cm iron in front of the HCal. It is very welcome if someone has interest in taking part in this study, the test beam and the data analysis. We're discussing with Oleg Tsai to have this study sometime in the 3rd week of the test beam around April 14-20.

Best regards,

Yuji

Dear Cold QCD enthusiasts,

We will have a meeting on Monday, February 4th, 8:30 pm EST to discuss efforts by John Lajoie, Sasha Bazilevsky, and Joe Osborn towards a forward EMCal based on the E864 calorimeter sections.

The meeting is BlueJeans only (https://bluejeans.com/345777492) with two talks on the agenda so far https://indico.bnl.gov/event/5651/.

Overview of sPHENIX forward EMCal based on E864 calorimeter sections – John Lajoie

Simulation studies for forward EMCal based on E864 calorimeter – Sasha Bazilevsky

Let me know if you’d like to be added to the agenda.

Best regards,

Christine
