Tungsten Scintillating Fiber EMCAL for sPHENIX

[Abstract]

The sPHENIX detector is a proposed new detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The sPHENIX physics program focuses on jets and hard probes of the quark gluon plasma (QGP). The proposed design of the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCAL), made of Tungsten powder and scintillating fibers, is designed to have a Moliere radius of 2.3 cm and a radius of about 100 cm for a resolution high enough to resolve single photons and electrons in the high multiplicity environment, and to identify photon jets. The $\eta$ and $\phi$ segmentation of the EMCAL is 0.024 x 0.024. This poster presents the current status of the project design and prototyping.
