Richie, here is my take.
- This is a test of sPHENIX not just of HCal. We are testing a piece of future experiment and we want it to look like the final experiment. Tiles in the experiment are “horizontal” I want to see them at FNAL in the same orientation too;
- Would like to have a possibility to expose each piece of this system to beam independently. Need to know response to electrons;
- See no reason to limit horizontal displacement of the whole unit to less then 25 cm both ways;
- Need calorimeter  on the height and with orientation allowing the beam to hit 2.5 cells (cell is one layer of Fe+Sc together) above visual (seen in the direction of particles) center of the entrance surface in the HOuter(assume it slopes towards inside), and 2.5 cells below visual center in the HInner;
- Would love to rotate the whole system around “imaginary collision point for 2.5cells (with reference to Outer HCal).

Hello All,

I will be designing the new sPhenix prototype stand in the next few weeks and would like some more input on the degrees of freedom from the group.

Here’s what I know.
1.       We need the ability to adjust the prototype assembly +/- 50mm vertically to be in line with Fermilab’s beam which is about 65” from the floor.
2.       We need to slide the EMCAL and the INNER HCAL independently  along the beam-line in order to access the electronics.
3.       EMCAL will be installed in a modified 80/20 frame that has its own degrees of freedom for independent tests.

Here’s what I’m not sure of.
4.       Do we want to have the ability to rotate the entire prototype around the sPHENIX beam-line by +/- 10degrees?
5.       Do we want the tiles stacked horizontally for cosmic ray tests?

Thanks,
Rich
