Hi, Sean,  can this be artifact of the core to cladding light mix in the sample of 1m length. I do not have transmission curves separately for PMMA and polystyrene but emission drop to “zero” at 475 looks a bit too sharp and out of the wack.

John,

I think my setup is accurate to ~ 2nm  - there is a +2nm shift between what I set the monochromator to, and what I measure with the spectrometer. Without a calibration lamp, I can't tell whether the shift is from the monochromator or the spectrometer. I checked a sample of Y11 from a previous order and get a similar peak at ~500nm. I sent an email to the Kuraray Sales rep to see if he can explain the difference between the 2 plots in their literature.

Hi Sean,

Hmmm, what I guess I don't understand is the setup you used and how reliable the response is as a function of wavelength?  Is it possible there is some systematic shift in the wavelength (calibration?) or some differential absorption that shifts the peak?  In other words, would you really expect to measure exactly 476nm?

I don't suppose we have similar measurements for previous batches of fiber?

As John H. points out this is just fine for the SiPM's, so it's a question of how much extra effort it is really worth trying to sort out the difference.

John,

I also didn't see any red flags, but as John H points out, the specified emission for the fiber is not 100% clear. Kuraray lists the peak emission as 476nm, and that agrees with the lower left plot on slide 1 (from their product info). The emission that I measure looks more like the other spectrum shown in their literature (top right of slide 1), which peaks at ~ 500nm.

Hi Sean,

    Thanks for doing this!

It certainly looks like WLS fiber to me. I didn't see any red flags in looking through your presentation - did I miss anything?

Here is some data & documentation from the Y-11 WLS fiber shipment that we received recently.

Dear HCAL'ers:

We will have our regular HCAL bi-weekly meeting this Wednesday, 8/15 at 2:30PM BNL time. The agenda is evolving at:

I'm hoping we can hear updates on the tile radiation testing, status of the tile tester and the analysis of the test beam data.  Other contributions are certainly welcome!
