Craig, John L. I would like to submit the following abstract for consideration: Title: The sPHENIX Calorimeter System Eric J. Mannel for the sPHENIX Collaboration
The sPHENIX experiment is the next generation heavy-ion physics designed to do detailed studies of the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Based on the BaBar 1.5T super-conducting solenoid, it is designed to make precise measurements of jets and heavy flavors in heavy ion collisions at RHIC. The detector consists of a precision central tracking system, electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry covering a region of +/- 1.1 in pseudo-rapidity and 2p in azimuth. A high rate data acquisition system will allow for the collection of a large sample of unbiased collisions to study the properties of the QGP. The electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal) is a 2-D projective design consisting of scintillating fibers imbedded in a tungsten powder infused epoxy. The hadronic calorimeter (HCal) consists of 2 components, the inner HCal located inside the solenoid and the outer HCal located outside the solenoid. Both HCal components are 2-D projective designs with tilted absorber plates and scintillating tiles with wave-shifting fibers. Both the EMCal and HCal detectors are readout using silicon photomultipliers as the optical sensors and have a common 14-bit ADC based readout system. In this paper we will present the final design of the sPHENIX calorimeter systems, current status of the construction and physics prospects for sPHENIX. On 2/24/20 5:16 PM, Woody, Craig wrote:
