Hi All,
Below is my draft of abstract for Hot Quarks Workshop about ongoing work on HCal tiles in Georgia State University(GSU). Comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Testing and Performance Characterization of Scintillator Tiles for the sPHENIX Hadronic Calorimeter.

sPHENIX is a new experiment at RHIC that is designed to quantify properties of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in relativistic heavy ions collisions with precision measurements of jets and quarkonia. A crucial component of the sPHENIX detector for jet measurements is the hadronic calorimeter (HCal). The HCal is located outside of the solenoidal magnet and composed of plastic scintillating tiles sandwiched between tapered, steel absorber plates. Signals from the tiles are read out with wavelength shifting fibers and Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). The HCal includes 7,680 scintillating tiles that are currently being produced by Uniplast in Russia. A test station has been built at Georgia State University to test the quality and performance of each of these tiles by measuring their response to cosmic rays. The results of these tests will also be used to group tiles of similar performance into sets of five, called a tower. The signal from a tower is the sum of the five individual tile signals; thus, the goal of the tile testing is to optimize the HCal's performance by reducing the response variation of tiles within the same tower. This talk is focused on the design of the test station and the current result of the performance characterization studies of the sPHENIX HCal tiles.
