  • Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2019 17:46:31 +0000
The Nuclear and Particle Physics group at New Mexico State University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position (Req. No.
1901444S) in Experimental High-Energy Nuclear Physics.

The position will be based at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory as part
of the SpinQuest Collaboration using the Main Injector proton beam. The
primary objective of the SpinQuest experiment is to measure the sea-quark
Sivers asymmetry in Drell-Yan production, using transversely polarized proton
and deuteron targets. A non-zero sea-quark Sivers asymmetry directly implies
non-zero orbital angular momentum for sea quarks. Additionally, SpinQuest
will conduct a parasitic search for dark photons using in-place equipment.
This approved experiment is currently being installed and commissioning will
begin during the summer of 2019. The primary responsibility of our group is
the development of track reconstruction and event simulation software, and we
have also been involved in detector testing and commissioning; there are many
possibilities within the experiment for involvement in other hardware or
software tasks, especially in the area of data analysis and publication.

The successful candidate will work with our experimental nuclear and particle
physics group, currently consisting of two faculty members (Stephen Pate and
Vassili Papavassiliou) with the possible addition of a third in the near
future; one other research associate; and several graduate students.

A doctoral degree or equivalent in physics is required; experience in
experimental medium-energy or high-energy nuclear physics or particle physics
is preferred. Salaries are competitive and a comprehensive package of
benefits is offered. An electronic job application must be filled out and
documents attached as stated on the posting announcement: go to
https://jobs.nmsu.edu/postings/34145 for complete application instructions.
Applications may be submitted until midnight on April 15, 2019. NMSU is an
equal-opportunity/affirmative-action university. Applications from minorities
and women are particularly encouraged.
