Dear sPHENIX:

As the fsPHENIX workshop draws to a close, I just wanted to make everyone aware that all the talks and status reports from the workshop are available on the Indico agenda page at:

https://indico.bnl.gov/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=1796

The workshop was a huge success, bringing together a wide range of people to discuss the possibility of implementing the physics program laid out in the RHIC Cold QCD Plan (http://arxiv.org/abs/1602.03922) with additional forward instrumentation added to sPHENIX.  Among the things we learned:

-> Really good hadronic calorimetry is not a DREAM
-> PbGl crystals like to spend time lounging in the sun
-> Old detectors never die...they just get recycled

The actual "work" part of the workshop succeeded in implementing a baseline fsPHENIX implementation within the context of the sPHENIX G4 simulations, and tutorial sessions for new users got us up and going quickly. In addition, we also made progress on items of mutual interest to sPHENIX/fsPHENIX - like interfacing Pythia6 to the G4 simulations and making use of available track finding and track fitting packages.

We set a goal of producing key performance plots for the fsPHENIX baseline for tracking performance and physics observables in the near future, and we'll keep the progress going in the context of the bi-weekly EIC/fsPHENIX Tuesday evening meetings.

Regards,
John Lajoie
