Dear collaborators,

Thanks to Jin Huang for taking notes during the meeting!

Regards,

sPHENIX News: Dave Morrison, Gunther Roland

Follow up with re-scoping exercise
·       No ALD response yet on re-scoping exercise. Official response expected about one month from now.
·       Final scope is in our hands. Collaboration plan is to build full scope sPHENIX addressing all physics as layout in MIE. New funding sources would be used to buy back scope.
·       In external talks, collaboration should show sPHENIX in full scope (full acceptance/depth EMCal/HCal, precision vertex tracking).

Garbor David: collaboration spent a large effort on this re-scoping exercise
Dave: ALD recognized that

Jamie Nagles: what’s cost collaboration should show in talks
Dave/Gunther: (more on slide 5) DOE project of ~30M$ + none DOE source to complete full detector. In communicating with ALD to form an consistent way to describe it.

Refreshing plots and update physics cases
·       Should establish lib of plots
·       Updating existing plot and add new plots as simulation and physics case develops
·       Strengthen theory connection

Rosi Reed: update in event generator connection?
Gunther: JETSCAPE collaboration collaboration forming. Workshop in Wayne state fall. Expect major progress in 2017

Cold QCD topical group
·       Convener nomination still open
·       Next week: communicate to EC regarding convener choices and forming the group

sPHENIX Project News: Ed O’brien

Coming reviews
·       A series tracking mini-reviews
·       DOE S&T review: Aug 23-25
·       BNL-charged tracker review in Sept 7-9

Detector progresses highlights
·       Projective EMCal towers: 2x2 tower R&D @ UIUC and 3-D printed assembly test @ BNL
·       TPC prototype development @ SBU & BNL
·       Building magnet valve box
·       To receive first two Nevis digitizer boards
·       Close bid on outer HCal sector

No scope change until official response on re-scoping document. The next EMCal test beam will NOT use 2x2 ganging. Tracking review start with reference of MAPS + TPC.

Reminder on two sPHENIX workfests

July 12-13 @ BNL: Calorimeter beam test workfest to push on analysis of Apr 2016 calorimetry prototype

July 18-29 @ UC Riverside: PHENIX spin workfest with strong component in developing Cold QCD case for sPHENIX
