We have begun to re-occupy the 1008 complex, and we're going to have to clear away some of the detritus left over from the decommissioning of PHENIX to make room to work and room to store incoming equipment. The spaces that need cleanup are the Control Room, the Rack Room, the adjacent lab space, and the trailer. Ed and I discussed this with some of the permanent residents (Frank Toldo, Mike Rau, and others), and we thought we would arrange for a few days of cleanup at the beginning of September. We would get a dumpster, and have the BNL property people available to retire equipment licitly.

Of course, we'll try to keep as much generically useful equipment as possible, things like NIM modules, test equipment, power supplies, some cables, fiber optic cables, and components, but we would discard things like old PHENIX electronics, spare parts for old PHENIX detectors, one-of-a-kind cables and modules, old computers, and personal effects left behind. We'll probably keep a small quantity of PHENIX equipment for largely sentimental reasons, but there really isn't room to keep too much.

If there are things that you want to make sure we preserve, we know most people cannot come on-site, so please send us email describing equipment or components you wish to preserve. If you have pictures, that would help. If you have access to the lab, please attach labels to anything you want to preserve with your name and date.

Nominally, we'd like to do this starting the week after Labor Day (September 6-10)
