Dear collaborators,

We wanted to let you know that we have just finished testing the MVTX after we removed it from the IR and transported it to 1008. We’re happy to report that there has been no damage. That means all staves and chips responded to tests, with over 99.99% of pixels operating. As well as this, there was also no damage to the beam pipe or vacuum from the removal (that has been reported to us and the vacuum was being monitored for the entire removal).

The complete removal of the MVTX and supporting structure has now freed the south face of sPHENIX for the ROC removal and the next stage of TPC repairs. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to both a successful repair and a successful physics year in 2024.

Obviously, the successful removal couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work of many people at 1008 and beyond, with many technicians, engineers, riggers and surveyors keeping me right through those steps so I’d like to say thank you to them for all they did.

Cheers,
Cameron, for the MOSAIC test team of Yasser, Hao-Ren, Jakub and myself.
