Dear Collaborators,
At last week's collaboration meeting we discussed the creation of a new role in the collaboration structure. The mandate for this role would be similar to the coordinator of the PPD ("physics performance and data set) group in CMS, i.e.,
"to ensure the quality of data that are provided to the physics analysis groups, both while recording the data during collisions, as well as after the
data have been processed and stored" (https://cms.cern/news/new-physics-performance-and-dataset-group-cms). This role was also referred to as "analysis coordinator" in
the meeting, in the sense of being responsible for coordinating the readiness of data (DST structure and calibrated content) and analysis software infrastructure for subsequent analysis in the physics groups.
We received a few comments on this plan and we expect that the exact interfaces with the existing efforts on the data taking, computing, reconstruction and production side on one hand, and the physics organization and topical groups on the
other hand will be defined once we have filled the role. This effort could be led by a single coordinator, or a team of two co-coordinators in different career stages, similar to (most of) our topical groups.
Please let us know if you have further comments on this proposal, and in particular, please nominate collaborators that you feel would be ready to step in this important role on short notice. Volunteers are also highly welcome. Nominations
before Dec 20 would be most useful.
Best,
Gunther and Dave
