All,

As per request, here are the minutes from today's tracking approvals. I general I believe we agreed to remove the run numbers from plots, ensure that each plot has the collision species and COM energy, and also include the date that the plot was made, if not possible, it should just be March 11th . Note that for convenience I've distilled the minutes into action items.

We also decided to use natural units for the plots; ergo, all masses should be in GeV or MeV, omitting the factor of 1/c^2.

Slide 3, conversion electron event display:

  • In the text of the slide we should always use the full gas mixture, not just e.g. "nitrogen"

Slide 4, conversion electron e/p:

  • Should include the average p_T of the electrons used
  • Also worth noting that the width of these distributions might draw heavily from the calorimetric response at low energy

Slide 5, conversion electron reconstructed mass and conversion radius

  • The plot on the left should be in MeV
  • Also the y-axis label on the left plot is incorrect, but needs to be changed anyways for the change to MeV
  • Add "photon conversion" label
  • For the right plot, somewhat artistically the radii for the various tracking instrumentations should be added, such as the outer TPC field cage, to give context to the peaks

Slide 6, dE/dx:

  • It would be good to illustrate which streaks belong to pions, protons, kaons, etc. But we should probably do this centrally so no one messes it up...
  • "preliminary calibrations" should be added somewhere. Probably on all plots the extent to which the distortions are accounted for should be mentioned
  • I believe we wanted to keep the z-axis, on a log scale, and with no axis label.

Slide 7, track multiplicity per relative beam crossing:

  • I have in a big circle to add, as a unit on the x-axis, [1/6ns]
  • But do not put a unit on the y-axis
  • Presenters also need to keep in mind that the spike at zero is where the triggered events are, hence the high track multiplicity, especially considering the rare probe triggers we ran with
  • Also the events taken during full streaming should be referred to as "zero-bias" in talks, not minimum bias, which comes from the minimum bias detector, to avoid confusion

Slide 8, reconstructed K-short vs relative beam-crossing:

  • Should rebin the y-axis by about a factor of 2 so that the band at the mass peak is brighter

Slide 9, invariant mass distributions:

  • Basically a re-hash of the comments from the first paragraph, but, importantly, do keep the "~4 minutes" label, as it shows the statistical payload we get with just a few minutes of running.

Additionally, it's been requested that all presenters upload their talks in both .pdf and .pptx mode so that it's easier to pull content from.

Best,
-Anthony

Subject: [[Sphenix-l] ] PCM -> PPG-07 and Performance approvals & Key dates

Hi all,

In lieu of our Physics Coordination Meeting this Friday at 12pm BNL time, we will instead have an approval session at that date and time for:

(1) Preliminary results from PPG-07 for the APS meeting and DIS conference, and

(2) tracking-related Preliminary performance plots in data for the APS meeting

Anne circulated the Indico agenda earlier, but here it is again: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/27156/ - note the different Zoom link than the usual PCM

As a reminder, Invenio links to the draft papers and conference notes in circulation, as well as to the Internal Analysis Notes, can all be found here: https://wiki.sphenix.bnl.gov/index.php?title=AnalysisTracking

At the end of this week, the Quark Matter conference will be only three weeks away. Here are some reminders about key dates and activities related to the review and approval of physics results:

Remainder of this week (10-14 March):

* The first paper drafts of PPG-02 and -03 have been circulated to the Collaboration, with comment deadline this Friday, 14 March for each. See the AnalysisTracking wiki page above for links to the drafts.

* The conference note draft for PPG-07 has also been circulated (also linked above), with comment deadline also this Friday, 14 March.

* We will have an approval of the PPG-07 Preliminary results this Friday as noted above, followed by an approval of performance plots from the tracking team (circulated last night: https://sphenix-invenio.sdcc.bnl.gov/records/w16sr-tvz49 )

Week of 17-21 March:

* We will have plenary sessions for PPG-02 and PPG-03 to discuss draft-1 comments and approve the results. We are confirming specific dates and times with the PPGs and IRCs, but they are likely to be on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the week.

Week of 24-28 March:

* This is the last week to circulate conference notes with Preliminary results for QM, which could include PPG-04, -08, -09, -11 and -12. Of course, earlier circulation the week before is strongly encouraged if at all possible.

* If ready, the second paper drafts for PPG-02 and -03 could circulate this week in order to make it to the arXiv by QM.

* Draft QM talks and posters should be posted by Thursday, 27 March

* We strongly suggest that TGs and detector groups have approvals for simulation-only plots this week, and also a close “pre-review” of proposed performance plots in data

Week of 31 March - 4 April (pre-QM Week):

* We have a dedicated agenda for this week: https://indico.bnl.gov/event/26857/

* Final sign-off and submission of PPG-02 and -03, if ready

* Preliminary approvals for the five conferences notes indicated above

* QM talk rehearsals

* Approval of performance plots with data (streamlined after the pre-review by the TGs and detector groups above)

Please reach out with any needed clarification or for help coordinating all of these review and approval activities!

Dennis, for the SP team
